Can the 5G Network be Used Now?
Technological developments from time to time can be said to peak and quickly after the computer was first introduced to the world. Today, computers have changed the way to research and design new technologies very quickly. Humans have been facilitated by it in doing almost all tasks.
Not only that, the internet network has grown rapidly and is getting faster. It seems, not too long ago that I recognized the 2G network internet technology, then it was followed by 3G. And now, I am used to using a 4G network. Even though it only advanced 1 point but later the Internet was 5G will have potential that is almost 10 times faster than 4G.
The 5th generation cellular technology, or the so-called 5G, is already buzzing by the communications industry. Various speculations also emerged, even Ericsson had predicted, that in 2023 5G would have more than 1 billion users.
Who has used the 5G network?
I live in a developing country, for technology, it can be said that Indonesia is still far behind, don’t say for 5G, 4G technology still cannot be enjoyed by the entire community, especially when we enter the rural area who still rely on 2G and 3G networks only.
Verizon, a telecommunications company and cellular operator from the United States (US) has announced that the 5G Network was officially activated for the first time in the world. Verizon has debuted for several regions in the United States, including Los Angeles, Sacramento, Houston, Indianapolis.
It’s not impossible, that in a few years, Indonesia will also be able to enjoy the 5G network, and I really hope for that. This is not without reason after I read the statement from Ronni Nurmal, Vice President Network Solution Ericsson for Indonesia and Timor Leste, he told for one of the local newspapers (kompas.com) that it was possible 5G massive deployment will start in 2021 in Indonesia.
5G does require a lot of supporting factors because the technology can be applied if cellular operators are ready for it, and have various supporting technologies. This is the same as other technologies. For example, you now have a smartphone with 4G capabilities, but some of your friends still have smartphones that only support 3G.
To see how far the development of the internet network generation is, maybe we need to pay attention to the term and progress since the first generation. You can see in the list below:
- 1G – Original analog cellular for voice (AMPS, NMT, TACS) 14.4 kbps
- 2G – Digital narrowband circuit data (TDMA, CDMA) 9-14.4 kbps
- 3G – Digital broadband packet data (CDMA, EV-DO, UMTS, EDGE) 500-700 kbps
- 3.5G – Replacement for EDGE is HSPA 1-3 mbps and HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps
- 4G – Digital broadband packet data all IP (Wi-Fi, WIMAX, LTE) 3-5 mbps
- 5G – Gigabit per second in a few years (?) 1+ gbps
G means Generation and is related to the speed of data transmission. (credit: lifewire)
